Dear UCSM Friends and Supporters,

Thanks to your continuing generosity the University Centers is celebrating the start of its fifth year of operations!  We are generating new courses and partnerships to make each semester an exciting learning experience. UCSM has a certificate in Sustainable Studies, and is planning a new business series to further aid current and potential business owners, along with classes in second language, current events, and regional topics.  We are also building more participation in our free Pathways to College counseling and mentoring programs for lower income high school youth and for adults returning to or entering college. However, keeping our tuition affordable and counseling accessible is costly, and in this difficult economic climate many grantors have announced severe cutbacks in their grant budgets. So this year, we need our friends to donate to our Annual Fund drive to help minimize this deficit.

In 2009, UCSM offered thirty-five classes, registered close to two hundred students, and counseled thirty Pathways to College participants.  The Early Childhood Education program, which provides group leader and director certification, is strong this year with five classes and an enrollment total of thirty-five.  UCSM courses and counseling offer people an opportunity to increase their workforce skills, increase the number of child care facilities and workers, increase cross-cultural communications, and help people discover the best way to achieve their goals.

Your sustained interest and commitment to our mission of accessible higher and continuing education opportunities for all ambitious youth and adults in our communities, regardless of socio-economic or geographic obstacles, is deeply appreciated.  We also invite you to consider donating at the next higher level this year to help offset the anticipated decrease in grant funding available for 2010 programming.  Your sustained support is critical to our success.

UCSM also welcomes your input.  Please call or email us, and consult the website (www.ucsanmiguel.org) to complete the survey to better serve your needs.  Also, consider purchasing a UCSM gift certificate to friends or family members this holiday season and give the gift of education.

Please make your check payable to UCSM, and return it in the enclosed envelope.  Your 2009 Annual Fund contribution to the non-profit UCSM is completely tax deductible.

Gratefully yours,

The UCSM Board of Directors
