June-August 2008

1. Field-based Geology of the San Juans
Austin Zinsser, MS,  will lead another summer field study course to fascinating geologically important sites in the area. Cohort is limited to 12 students to minimize environmental impacts.  This 1/2 day a wk/6 field trip course may also be taken for college credit from Mesa State College by advanced  H.S. and adult college students at MSC tuition.
Begins Tues June 24 with evening orientation class.  UCSM Tuition $228

2. Historical Geography of the San Juans
History buffs will love this interesting perspective on the impact of human culture on the geography of the west, with a special focus on our local mountain environments.  Local geographer, historian, and college instructor, Chris Maschino, will lead this innovative lifelong learning course which combines 6 evening seminars in Mtn Village and 2 Saturday field trips.
Begins Monday June 30. Tuition $218
3. Spanish IB
Jennifer Fuhrer will offer this advanced beginner Spanish communications course on eight Tuesday eves in Mtn Village beginning July 1 . Tuition $135
4. Spanish IIA
Jamie Campbell will lead another of his popular Intermediate Spanish conversation classes
on eight Weds eves beginning July 2 in Telluride. Tuition $135.  .
5.  Nutrition: The Sense and Science
This introduction to a science-based study of human nutrition will be taught by Sandy Wickham, MS.  This course may meet a  requirement for some medical/nursing programs.
Six Wed eves beginning June 25 at the Ah Haa School.  UCSM Tuition $128
6. Mastering Microsoft Excel I
If you need Excel for business or personal use this four weekly session class gives you the basics and more. Instructor Kathy Schroers at the Wilkinson Library computer lab on Wed eves. beginnng July 9  at 5:30-7:30pm. Tuition $100

2008-2009 Preview
American History II, Environmental Science, English Composition, Spanish Communications, Early Childhood Education, Multi-cultural Bi-lingual Education, World Literature, and Computer Applications are among the courses being considered for 08-09. The Fall Global Issues Seminar offering will be on the World's Food Crisis.

Social anthropologist, intrepid war correspondent, and impassioned author, Rob Schultheis,MA, will lead a lively and intensive seminar exploring the cultural and historical foundations of radicalism that led to the formation and spread of Al-Qaeda.
